SCIENCE TEACHERS ASSOCATION OF NIGERIA

The Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), is a non-profit making professional association geared towards the promotion of Science, Technology and Mathematics (STM) teacher effectiveness in Nigeria. Other goals of the association include creating for a for exchange of ideas among members through workshops, seminars, conferences, excursions, quiz and project competitions at National, State, Zonal and subject panel levels. STAN is organized into 36 state branches and the F.C.T. Abuja. Each branch organizes its own activities to suit local needs. The Association also has 15 subject panels namely: Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Education, Information Communications Technology, Gender and STME, Physical and Health Education, Home Economics, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Physics, Primary Science, Science, Technology & Society, Teacher Education and Technology Education. Each year, national workshops which rotates the various states of the federation are organized by all the subject panels

STAN Pledges Support for Alia’s Education Drive, Hails Scholarships for Outstanding Science Students

Science Teachers Association Of Nigeria, STAN, Benue State has pledged to continue to support the Alia Administration’s educational initiatives and sustain efforts to make the teaching of science top priority in the State.

State Chairman of STAN, Doctor Timothy Akpoghol made the pledge in an interview against the backdrop of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s award of scholarship to three Students from Benue State, Doose Naswem of Sora Height Academy Gboko, Solomon Ndiir & Rita Tertsea of Kusaki College Gboko to study in any University of their choice in the world at this year’s Youth Day Celebration in Makurdi.

Doctor Akpoghol noted that the beneficiaries Doose Naswem emerged overall winner in a National Quiz Competition, while Solomon Ndiir & Rita Tertsea, took second place in the National Science Exhibition with a solar powered motorcycle project at the Science Exhibition.

He stressed that the Governor ‘s gesture followed the remarkable performance of the Students who represented Benue State at the National Science Quiz and Project Exhibition in two thousand and twenty four.

Doctor Akpoghol said Governor Alia’s intervention, demonstrated that his administration was not paying lip service to the advancement of education in the State,

The State Chairman of STAN expressed confidence that such recognition would inspire a new wave of excellence among Science Students across the State, adding that science remains the bedrock of economic and technological progress needed to make Benue more prosperous.
